The latest Nielsen On Device Meter (ODM) survey shows that Canadian cell phone maker Blackberry remains the strongest brand in Indonesia even though Korean Samsung is favored by most other Asian countries.

According to data released on Thursday, 48 percent of smartphone users in the country chose BlackBerry as their top brand while 34 percent of them chose Blackberry as their favorite brand, kontan.co.id reported.

The data also showed that 79 percent of Indonesian smartphone users used the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) application for chatting while the rest were using Whatsapp and LINE.

Samsung is the top brand and favorite brand in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, India and Hong Kong.

Based on Nielsen Smartphone Insights in 2013, smartphone ownership in Indonesia accounted for 23 percent of the country's total handset ownership. (nfo)
